211 in Maryland: How It Started<\/h3>\n

The 211 system in Maryland was built through the work of community partners who saw the need for one easy number to connect people to help.<\/p>\n

United Way of Central Maryland played a pivotal role in developing and planning 211 beginning in 2000, and its helpline served central Maryland callers through the 211 network for many years. Life Crisis Center, the Mental Health Association of Frederick County, and Community Crisis Services, Inc. were also founding call centers and continue to serve Marylanders today.<\/p>\n
