Food and financial help
Serving People Across Neighborhoods (SPAN) is a community group helping individuals and families in a number of ways - through food and financial help.
Call first to ensure you qualify for services. You can call 410-647-0089 between 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Hours may vary.
Located in Severna Park, SPAN has two service areas. The primary area is the only one that helps with food.
Residents in this primary area can also get financial assistance with prescriptions/medical co-pays, utility turn-off notices, or eviction.

- 21108 Millersville
- 21146 Severna Park
These are the only areas eligible for food. You're eligible to receive food twice in the first month and then once every month.

SPAN's Other Anne Arundel Programs
SPAN also has a secondary service area that provides financial assistance only. Secondary areas are eligible for:

- eviction
- prescriptions

Benefits are offered once every 12 months for those who qualify, and the benefit is up to $200 a year.

Eviction Prevention
The Eviction Prevention Program (EPP) through the Arundel Community Development Services (ACDS) can help renters at the highest risk of eviction. There are limited funds available to those who qualify.
It is not a long-term assistance program.
The program helps those with an unexpected financial hardship that temporarily makes it difficult to pay rent, putting them at risk of imminent eviction and homelessness. Applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
ACDS also has a program to prevent homeowners from losing their home. You can learn more about their foreclosure prevention counseling.
Laurel Short-term Housing and Essential Needs
While not in Anne Arundel County, residents can use the City of Laurel Multiservice Center Day Center for short-term housing needs, hygiene supplies, showers, food, and clothing. The Multiservice Center also helps individuals access health and human services that can help with essential needs. The Center is available to residents in Anne Arundel even though it's located in Prince George's County.
Public transportation is available to the Multiservice Center.
Housing And Utility Help from the Community Action Agency
The Community Action Agency (CAC) of Anne Arundel County provides income-eligible residents support with heating and electric bills and housing-related needs.
The Community Action Agency’s housing program is a one-stop resource for emergency assistance or other needs that disrupt independent living. They include access to financial literacy workshops and housing counselors who can help prevent foreclosure, eviction, credit repair, assist with first-time homeownership programs and help with budgets.
If you need help applying for utility assistance, the agency can help residents navigate the programs offered by the Maryland Office of Home Energy Programs (OHEP). You can call CAC at 410-626-1900 for help with program guidelines and applications for electric, gas or home heating bills.

CAC also has therapeutic, preventive, and educational services and programs for Anne Arundel children and youth, access to the Early Head Start Center; health and wellness programs; and they assist residents leaving correctional facilities and returning to the community.
