Applying for food stamps
Food stamps can also help families make healthy, low-cost meals.
You can get help from the local Department of Social Services (DSS), in Landover, Hyattsville or Temple Hillls. DSS can also help you with other benefit programs. Emergency Shelter
If you need a temporary place to stay, there are emergency shelters throughout Prince George's County. Contact the Homeless Hotline, which organizes placement.
Help is provided 24 hours a day. Referrals are made on a first-come, first-served basis. Prince George's County details the eligibility requirements and documentation needed.
At the shelter, you will be assigned a case manager to help you.

Short-Term Housing and Community Support
The City of Laurel Multiservice Center also provides short-term housing and human services to those experiencing a life transition in Prince George's, Anne Arundel, and Howard counties.
The Day Center provides basic necessities for those experiencing homelessness, like food, hygiene supplies, showers, and clothing. The team can also coordinate with free medical and mental health services.
The facility also provides services through partnerships with community agencies and organizations, like 211 Maryland. Our team will be on-site monthly to connect Marylanders to essential needs to help individuals establish independence.
The City of Laurel Multiservice Center will also host events like the 8-week financial stability course, with a financial stipend for those who complete it.
Public transportation is available to get to the Center.
Mental Health: Community Crisis Services
Community Crisis Services (CCSI), which is part of the 211 Call Center Network and located in Hyattsville, offers several crisis response programs to support Prince George’s County and the surrounding areas.
CCSI has an emergency shelter for domestic violence victims, coordinates shelter placements throughout Prince George’s County, and offers child protective services after-hours for child abuse and neglect reports.

Utility Assistance

Individuals and families can also request help filling out the energy assistance forms from the Prince George’s County Department of Social Services in Landover.
BGE customers may also qualify for help from the Fuel Fund of Maryland.
Local support is also available for utility bills through Catholic Charities in Forestville, Laurel Advocacy and Referral Services (LARS), and the Salvation Army.
Financial Support

We're all responsible for keeping children safe and reporting suspected child abuse or neglect.
Child abuse can be:
- Physical, sexual, emotional, or a combination. The abuse doesn't have to be visible.
- Failure to properly care for or pay attention to a child.
- Sexual molestation or exploitation, regardless of whether there are injuries.
- Impairment of a child's mental or psychological ability to function.
Reports can be anonymous, but you will be asked to identify the location of the child and caregiver, the approximate age of the child, and the identity of those responsible for the abuse or neglect.
