When you call 211, you’ll be connected to a trained and professional specialist who will help identify all your needs.
211 is a one-stop connection point to the essential resources you need.

2-1-1 is a helpline, but without the normal scripting you might expect.
“We don’t use scripting. When you’re talking to a person, you’re talking to that individual. We want everyone to feel like that because it is true that you’re having a genuine, open and anonymous conversation,” explained Brandi Nieland, Director of the United Way of Central Maryland, which is part of the 211 call center network.
We spoke with Nieland on “What’s the 211 podcast,” about how 211 works.
She went on to say that the 211 specialists understand it can be hard to talk about your problems, but talking through the situation with a compassionate person helps.
“Our job is to help you figure out how to best utilize your internal resources because a lot of people have the strength within themselves, but then also look externally to what actually exists [resources] in the community,” Nieland explained.
