Veteran Employment Services

Are you a Veteran and in need of a job? Several programs are available to assist Veterans with job training by emphasizing and building on existing skills, learning new skills, and recognizing special needs or accommodations as a Veteran.

Veteran Employment Readiness

For Veterans transitioning from military to civilian jobs, employment-readiness programs can help.

Look for employers who are Veteran-friendly. These companies make Veteran hiring a part of their recruiting efforts.

In Maryland, you can develop employment-readiness skills at an American Job Center. They provide:

  • career counseling
  • testing and placement assistance
  • job search assistance
  • job training

There are locations throughout Maryland, and the centers may have specific programs for Veterans.

You may also get help from the Maryland Workforce Exchange, a one-stop online resource for all job seekers. You may be familiar with MWE if you're an unemployed Veteran filing for unemployment benefits.

Learn more about MWE and American Job Centers in the 211 Employment Guide.

Our Community Resource Database also has Veteran employment programs. Search by ZIP code.

State jobs for veterans

The State of Maryland details jobs in state government where a Veteran may be especially suited to apply for the position. Of course, you can apply for any position, but a military background is helpful for these open state jobs.

The state also provides "crosswalks" which are careers in the military service followed by a comparable state employment classification.
